Ascoli Piceno

Its historic centre, the largest in the Marche region, is built almost entirely of travertine and is one of the most admired in the region and in central Italy, thanks to its artistic and architectural wealth. It preserves several noble towers and bell towers, which is why it is called the City of a Hundred Towers. It is home to the Renaissance Piazza del Popolo, considered one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.

Civitella del Tronto
33 km away

Civitella del Tronto

One of Italy's most beautiful villages, perched on an enchanting hill (600 metres above sea level) in an eagle's nest position, Civitella del Tronto is one of the most interesting places in the region for the architectural beauty enclosed within its ancient walls. The aristocratic town stands on a rocky travertine cliff dominated by the fortress, the last bastion of the Bourbons before the unification of Italy. The incredible engineering blends perfectly into a landscape that embraces both the Gran Sasso and the Adriatic Sea.

Coastal biotope
protected natural area

Biotopo costiero

The protected coastal biotope area extends along the southern stretch of the Trentino coastline. A network of trails allows visitors to enjoy excursions surrounded by nature. The Martinsicuro coastal biotope is the first and most important example of the reconstruction of a dune environment in Abruzzo. These stretches of beach are home to more than 40 native botanical species that were once widespread throughout the Adriatic but are now at risk of extinction. The presence of dunes provides protection for plants known as psammophiles, or “sand-loving plants”, as they are able to survive in an arid, salty environment.
